World Hunger Day

Knox Bros Funeral Service in Wimbledon donated a giant box of food to The Trussell Trust Food Bank, via their local Sainsbury’s store, in aid of World Hunger Day on 23 May.

Local people and families, plus staff members cleaned out their kitchen cupboards and purchased food items to donate, after seeing the collection advertised in the branch’s window.

Amanda Beer, Funeral Arranger, said: “The local community have been so generous in their donations that we soon filled up our box.

“It was so successful in fact that we now have plans to establish the branch as a permanent food bank donation point for The Trussell Trust.”

Amanda, who is the mother of five boys, also has a keen interest in health and nutrition. This has led to her being asked to write a manual for the Trust on ‘Feeding the family on a low budget with high nutritional value’, which will be given to families that need help.

She added: “Many local children go hungry daily – many more than you think – and I want to do as much as I can to help.”
